Chinese Medicine & Fertility: STRESS

Updated: Aug 23, 2021

WOMEN'S HEALTH BLOG SERIES: How do you handle stress???

This blog topic is STRESS!!! We all face day to day stressors, and for couples who face challenges with fertility , we know how stress can be even greater, often creating a vicious cycle.

In Chinese Medicine, the qi mechanism of the ♥️ heart and liver are the main systems to be affected by emotional strain.

Our “heart” in Chinese Medicine is thought of as our emotional and intellectual center, and without proper flow of heart qi, our brain cannot communicate properly with hormonal centers such as adrenals and ovaries, and the overall rhythm of the menstrual cycle becomes disrupted.

Our “liver” acts as overseer of many systems in the body, especially the areas of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis. When liver qi is restricted we experience tension in the body and lack of blood flow to these crucial areas necessary for conception.

So how do we deal with stress???

Deep breathing, mindfulness practices, being out in nature, exercising, creative projects and journaling are all great ways to manage stress. And of course, treating yourself to ACUPUNCTURE regularly is one of the best things you and your partner can do!

Acupuncture has always been recognized for its stress relieving benefits, even related to fertility.

In fact several studies of women undergoing IVF have shown that those receiving acupuncture report a reduction in psychological stress and have higher chances of success. Here is the link to the study if you wanna check it out for yourself.

Regardless of where you're at, regular acupuncture treatments can be a total game changer when it comes to managing stress and providing emotional support throughout your journey.
