Acupuncture for
Headaches & Migraines

Most conventional medical treatments of migraines treat the symptom (pain relievers or muscle relaxers) but do not address the ROOT CAUSE of what is causing them. Therefore, it can be very difficult to find treatment that stops headaches from reoccurring.

Research shows that acupuncture can reduce the frequency and severity of migraines/headaches.**

Chinese Medicine looks to find the root cause of your headaches or migraines to ensure that the problem gets resolved.

A treatment plan of regular acupuncture and herbal medicine (minimum 6 sessions) is most effective for treating the cause and preventing head pain in the future.

Types of headaches that can be alleviated with acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine:

  • chronic migraines (with or without aura)

  • tension headaches

  • headaches related to menstrual cycle

  • head pain from traumatic injury (concussion)

If you are unsure if acupuncture can help with your specific headache or migraine concerns, call our office at (385)242-0649 or email info{at}flowacupuncture.org to answer any questions you may have.

Relief from

chronic migraines

Acupuncture has been proven to relieve numerous types of chronic migraines. Acupuncture has also been shown to be as or more effective than prescription drugs for migraine prevention/treatment - without the side effects that these medications may sometimes cause.

Relief from frequent

stress & tension headaches

Acupuncture is proven to reduce our physiological response to stress, while also providing a relaxing and enjoyable experience to unwind. Frequent tension headaches can be relieved with regular acupuncture and prevented by improving the body's resilience to stressors, reducing muscle tension in the neck and shoulders (which contributes to these types of headaches) and inducing a calming, soothing effect on the mind.

Relief from chronic headaches

related to hormones/menses

Have you noticed your headaches and migraines seeming to synch up with your menstrual cycle? It can be common for women to experience headaches the week before or during their period. Acupuncture can help reduce frequent headaches and migraines caused by hormonal changes. Your acupuncturist will work with you to develop a plan (that may also include herbal medicine and dietary changes) for results that last throughout your entire cycle.
